Position Summary:
P17 Solutions has an immediate need for a highly skilled Software Integration Engineer to support the end-to-end integration of TFDM capabilities into the National Airspace System (NAS) for the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Terminal Flight Data Manager (TFDM) program. This position is responsible for the technical oversight, coordination, and execution of TFDM software integration with FAA legacy and modern systems at both the enterprise and terminal levels.
The Software Integration Engineer will work collaboratively with system engineers, developers, program managers, site deployment teams, and air traffic stakeholders to ensure seamless software interoperability, compliance with FAA standards, and successful site activation. The ideal candidate brings hands-on FAA systems experience, strong scripting and automation capabilities, and a demonstrated ability to develop and execute integration procedures in mission-critical NAS environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead or support the integration of TFDM software components with other FAA automation platforms (e.g., ERAM, STARS, TFMS, TBFM, SWIM).
- Develop and execute integration test plans, interface control documents (ICDs), and interface verification procedures for site-level and enterprise deployments.
- Originate and develop System Support Modification (SSM) procedures for TFDM core systems and remote sites; conduct SSM verification in test lab environments.
- Develop Python tools and shell scripts (bash, Perl) that automate system testing, software and configuration deployment, and external data integration.
- Automate server builds and deployments, including scripted installation of software suites and provisioning of VM instances for client-specific configurations.
- Coordinate with engineering, testing, cybersecurity, and operations teams to validate interface functionality, data exchange, and end-to-end workflows.
- Troubleshoot software issues across system boundaries, including multi-system Linux/Windows environments, and coordinate corrective actions with development teams.
- Support Software Qualification Testing (SQT), Integration and Formal Qualification Testing (I&FQT), and Operational Testing & Evaluation (OT&E); witness formal test events and evaluations.
- Ensure software builds are properly deployed, version-controlled, and validated at both the enterprise and site levels using FAA-approved configuration management systems.
- Provide integration support for FAA cybersecurity compliance, including software patching, hardening, and security testing.
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans, procedures, and automated frameworks, including database replication/backup and server restoration processes.
- Travel to FAA field sites to perform software, hardware, and network testing; coordinate final operational approval and initial system operations.
- Coordinate administrative and technical support from Air Traffic management, NATCA, site technical operators, and primary contractor engineers during initial system operations.
- Contribute to technical documentation including Technical Instructions (TIs), Maintenance Handbooks, functional software descriptions, and development documentation.
- Participate in technical working groups, readiness reviews, and problem resolution meetings to represent integration interests.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a directly related technical discipline; or equivalent demonstrated work experience. Advanced degrees (MS, PhD) in technical or scientific fields are recognized as qualifying.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in software integration, systems engineering, or enterprise-level software deployments, with preference for experience in FAA or NAS program environments.
- Demonstrated experience supporting FAA automation systems such as TFMS, TBFM, ERIDS, TFDM, ERAM, STARS, or equivalent NAS platforms.
- Proven experience with second-level engineering support of mission-critical systems, including 24/7 support across geographically distributed sites.
- Strong proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, bash, Perl, PowerShell, or equivalent; experience scripting complex deployment and testing workflows is required.
- Demonstrated experience with Linux server environments (Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat Enterprise Linux); familiarity with Windows Server environments.
- Experience with VM deployment and administration using VMware, Hyper-V, Docker, or Kubernetes; cloud provisioning experience (AWS, Google Cloud) a plus.
- Proficiency in SQL and relational database administration (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) for data management, report generation, and test automation.
- Familiarity with FAA's SWIM architecture, NAS Enterprise Messaging Service (NEMS), and NAS data standards.
