P17 Solutions is seeking a Senior System Engineer to join our team supporting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Te4ch Ops Organization. This is an on-site, full-time position located at the Mike MonroneyAeronautical Center, Oklahoma City, OK.

The System Engineer will have design, documentation, implementation, and testing of full cycle applications and systems; proficiency in multiple technologies and standards; working knowledge of integrating systems and applications with heterogeneous environments and data formats. This role serves as a bridge between engineering disciplines, program management, and stakeholders, translating operational needs into technical solutions and plays a key role in maintaining the performance, security, and reliability of mission-critical systems while aligning deliverables with organizational and customer objectives. The Systems Engineer applies structured engineering practices, oversees system requirements development, supports verification and validation activities, and ensures compliance with applicable standards.


Key Responsibilities: Design, implement, and maintain Python-based microservices and CI/CD pipelines for containerized applications across Kubernetes and RedHat OpenShift environments.

  • Develop automated, secure deployment processes (including air-gapped environments), leveraging Ansible, OS package repositories, container registries, and configuration management tools.

  • Ensure system security and compliance by performing OS scans, building CIS-compliant VM templates, and maintaining required SOPs, technical documentation, and assurance artifacts

  • Establish and implement design assurance processes to monitor compliance throughout the project lifecycle, including safety, configuration control, and regulatory standards.

  • Perform independent verification and validation (IV&V) of design artifacts, test results, and deployments to ensure alignment with system requirements.

  • Conduct independent design reviews, identify and mitigate risks, and provide technical guidance during integration, testing, and deployment phases.

  • Support root cause analysis and lead corrective/preventive actions for design or deployment-related issues.

  • Participate in FAA and customer audits as the subject matter expert for design assurance and compliance.

  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, compliance, and program management teams to ensure requirements are properly defined, validated, and verified.

  • Develop and deliver training materials to enable effective knowledge transfer to support teams.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in engineering quality, security, and design assurance practices.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience and 10+ years

  • Master's degree in, Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience and 5+ year

  • Proven background in systems, or hardware engineering.

  • Strong knowledge of design assurance principles in safety-critical or regulated industries (aviation, aerospace, defense, or medical devices preferred).

  • Familiarity with FAA regulations, ISO standards, and/or DO-178C/DO-254 processes is highly desirable.

  • Proficiency with engineering design tools (CAD, modeling software, requirements management systems).

  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., DOORS, JIRA, Git).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with configuration management tools, geospatial layouts, or data adaptation platforms.

  • Prior experience working with or within the FAA's TFDM, TFMS, or ERAM programs.

  • Experience using FAA's adaptation development environments, such as URET or TDDS.

  • Knowledge of enterprise geospatial systems such as ARCGIS or AutoCAD for airport layouts.

  • Ability to lift up to 20lbs

Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Citizenship/Permanent Residency Requirement All candidates must have the following to pass the Federal Background Investigation and obtain the FAA Public Trust security clearance.

  • Be a US Citizen, have a US Green Card, or a Non-immigrant Work Authorization (VISA).
  • Has resided in the US for three (3) consecutive years.
  • The company is unable to sponsor candidates at this time.

Relocation Requirement

Relocation expenses are not offered. Candidate must reside or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance to onsite location.

Work Environment

  • Full-time position with a standard flexible work schedule and occasional non-standard work hours. Cubicle setting.
  • Travel about 20%

Base Pay: The base pay offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
